5th IFIP International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Applications & Innovations (AIAI 2009) Thessaloniki, April 23-25 2009 http://delab.csd.auth.gr/aiai2009/ AIMS AND SCOPE: The ever expanding abundance of information and computing power enables researchers and users to tackle highly interesting issues, such as applications providing personalized access and interactivity to multimodal information based on user preferences and semantic concepts or human-machine interface systems utilizing information on the affective state of the user. The general focus of the AIAI conference is to provide insights on how AI can be implemented in real world applications. Also research papers describing advanced prototypes, innovative systems, tools and techniques are encouraged. General survey papers indicating future directions and professional work-in-progress reports are of equal interest. Acceptance will be based on quality, originality and the practical value of the work. IMPORTANT DATES: Abstract submission deadline: August 25th, 2008 Full Paper submission: 1st of September, 2008 Workshop Proposal submission: 1st of September, 2008 Tutorial Proposal submission: 1st of September, 2008 Notification of acceptance: 3rd of November, 2008 Camera-ready copy due: 1st of December, 2008 Conference dates: April 23-25, 2009 SUBMISSIONS: Authors are invited to submit electronically original, English-language scientific research contributions. Submitted papers must present unpublished work, not submitted to other journals or conferences for consideration of publication. Accepted papers will be presented at the conference and published in the official IFIP conference proceedings by Springer Academic Publishers. Maximum length is eight (8) pages, formatted according to Springer IFIP series instructions. Authors are strongly encouraged to use the correct document style from the Springer IFIP web site ( http://www.springer.com/series/6102) . The program committee may reject papers that exceed this length on the grounds of length alone. Authors are strongly encouraged to use the correct document style. This should be done for their initial submission, so that preparation of the final papers is simplified. A fully electronic review process by three academic reviewers is being planned for all the submitted papers. Full papers and workshop or tutorial proposals should be submitted electronically in postscript or pdf format by the 1st of September 2008, following the pro-cedure described on the conference web page. Abstracts are due on the 25th of August 2008. Please ensure that the language in your paper is good. If necessary, get it checked by a language professional. WORKSHOPS PROPOSALS: Workshops Proposals accepting original research papers (that have not been submitted elsewhere) on innovative, or otherwise provocative issues within the conference area are encouraged as well. Workshops should be held simultaneously with the conference. Proposals should include a 2-3 page summary of the topic plus the names and affiliations of program committee members and chairs. Also the chairs of the workshops should arrange the publication of accepted papers. Please contact A. Prof. N. Vasiliadis at nbassili@csd.auth.gr Proposals for 90-minute tutorials are also invited on topics within the conference area. Tutorial proposals must be at most 5 pages, they must identify the intended audience, and they must give enough material to provide a sense of what will be covered.
