 CBMI is the main international forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest technological advances, industrial needs and product developments in multimedia indexing, search, retrieval, navigation and browsing. Following the five successful previous events (Toulouse 1999, Brescia 2001, Rennes 2003, Riga 2005, and Bordeaux 2007), CBMI'08 will be hosted by Queen Mary, University of London in the vibrant city of London. The focus of CBMI'08 is the integration of what could be regarded as unrelated disciplines including image processing, information retrieval, human computer interaction and semantic web technology with industrial trends and commercial product development.

The technical program of CBMI'08 will include presentation of invited plenary talks, special sessions as well as regular sessions with contributed research papers. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

    * Content-based browsing, indexing and retrieval of images, video and audio
    * Matching and similarity search
    * Multi-modal and cross-modal indexing
    * Content-based search
    * Multimedia data mining
    * Summarisation and browsing of multimedia content

    * Semantic web technology
    * Semantic inference
    * Semantic mapping and ontologies
    * Identification and tracking of semantic regions in scenes

    * Presentation and visualization tools
    * Graphical user interfaces for navigation and browsing
    * Personalization and content adaptation
    * User modelling, interaction and relevance feed-back

    * Metadata generation and coding
    * Large scale multimedia database management

    * Applications of multimedia information retrieval
    * Analysis and social content applications
    * Evaluation metrics

Prospective authors are invited to submit papers using the on-line system. Accepted papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings. Extended and improved versions of CBMI papers will be reviewed and considered for publication in Special Issues of IET Image Processing (formerly IEE Proceedings Vision, Image and Signal Processing) and EURASIP journal on Image and Video Processing.
