HSSS Conferences endeavour to provide a platform to foster multidisciplinary discussions and support debates on the different economical, historical, pedagogical, philosophical, scientific and technological issues surrounding systems studies. They seek to advance knowledge about the effective and efficient implementation of systemic thinking by individuals, groups, organizations, society and nations for the improvement of economic and social welfare.

The scope of the HSSS05 Conference ranges from the mechanisms through the development of principles to the application of those principles to specific environments. More specifically, papers presented in this conference should be designed to inform researchers, developers, managers, strategic planners, users and others interested in state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice activities in the systemic thinking, systems design and systems practice areas. The international perspective is emphasized in order to develop the foundations for achieving solutions for the global needs.

Contributions

We welcome contributions that build on established lines of work as well as novel research streams. In particular, we are interested in high quality well-defined and analyzed theoretical surveys that provide a synthesis and comprehensive review of the historical development of one particular area of interest, and empirical studies, with strong grounding in a current or new theory, on important issues that have potential impact on organizations and are of value to researchers and practitioners in general and the systems engineering research community in specific.

Best Student Paper Award

We are very pleased to announce that papers written solely or primary by undergraduate students will be considered for the Best Student Paper Award. This award aims to highlight outstanding contributions to system research made by young researchers.

The selection will be done by the program chairs based on the recommendations of the area chairs and program committee members. The awards will be handed to the winners at the conference opening ceremony by the president of the HSSS.
